From September 12 to 14, during European Mobility Week, MOVEO will take place at the Palacio de Congresos y Exposiciones in Oviedo, an event where electromobility will be a central theme.

In this context, Ángel García, president of the Spanish Electric Vehicle Users Association (AUVE), examines the current landscape.

“The measures being taken in the sector remain largely in the same state, in a sort of ‘standby’ mode,” he comments exclusively to Mobility Portal Spain.

He explains: “The actions and intentions are good, but a change is needed to accelerate, especially in terms of dissemination.”

In this sense, he highlights that significant progress is being made in terms of technology and infrastructure, but there remains a shortage of vehicles to consume the kilowatts offered by operators.

This is confirmed by the latest registration data.

The figures show a general slowdown, with a 28.9 per cent decrease in sales of electric vehicles of all types (passenger cars, two-wheelers, commercial and industrial) in August.

Meanwhile, public charging points have increased, with more than 34,105 chargers installed.

In this context, MOVEO plays a fundamental role in driving the adoption of zero and low-emission vehicles.

Why?

Because it consolidates as a key space for promoting and advancing not only sustainable mobility but also renewable energies, smart cities, the circular economy, and the environment.

According to Ángel García, the third edition of MOVEO has the potential to bring all aspects related to electromobility closer to the public.

“This event, which gains momentum every year, allows the public not only to see but also to interact with the sector’s advances,” he notes.

From testing the latest electric vehicle models to workshops on sustainability and the circular economy, the fair aims not only to showcase innovations but also to serve as a meeting point for all involved sectors.

One aspect that the AUVE president highlights is the inclusion of awards, which this year feature over 40 candidates and participation from major industry names such as Porsche, Renault, and Iberdrola.

However, what makes them special is that it is the users who vote, a significant detail in an industry where “citizens are asked to invest in electric vehicles.”

“If we ask them to buy zero and low-emission cars, they should also be the ones to reward those who are best facilitating that transition,” he emphasizes.

From the Oviedo City Council, which is also involved in organizing MOVEO, there is a shared vision.

“The commitment to electric mobility is firm, both in urban transport and in charging infrastructure,” says the Department of Infrastructure and Mobility of the Government to Mobility Portal Spain.

They detail that the city has already implemented more than 80 municipal charging points, becoming a benchmark in Asturias.

And that’s not all.

With the transformation of more than 46% of its urban bus fleet into eco or zero-emission vehicles, the metropolis follows the footsteps of other major capitals.

And they highlight: “We are about to start a new contract for the electric bike rental system.”

Why participate in MOVEO?

According to the Department of Infrastructure and Mobility, “the goal is for everyone to be aligned: to promote sustainable mobility.”

What will MOVEO bring in this edition?

The MOVEO Professional Congress, which this year carries the theme “Designing the Future: Green, Digital and Accessible,” will be a forum to discuss the challenges facing the sector.

With over 200 industry professionals, the aim is to create a space for exchanging knowledge and proposing solutions to the global issues faced.

Current and future business models, the electric mobility value chain, and challenges related to innovation and sustainability will be on the table during the more than seven hours of the congress.
