At GMC it is confirmed! 2025 will be a year of transition to electric cars

Next year will be a year of transition to electric cars, thanks to new models that will be cheaper, and, from 2026, the market is expected to relaunch and start to grow very strongly, according to the conclusions of a round table discussion held on Wednesday at the Global Mobility Call 2024, organised by IFEMA MADRID and Smobhub. 

The head of Smart Mobility at Iberdrola, Jorge Muñoz, has assured that the infrastructure of charging points is growing faster than the number of vehicles and, in the case of his company, already exceeds 8,000, and will respond to the demand generated in the future.

Investment in charging infrastructure is being brought forward in anticipation of demand, with many electric cars on the road, he explained in a debate entitled “Driving the electric future: solutions in uncertain times”. 

The director of Anfac‘s Industry and Environment area, Arancha Garcia Hermo, stressed that the sector continues to do its homework, “putting vehicles on the market with better performance and in the conditions that economies of scale allow us in terms of price”.

For her part, the Director General of Road and Rail Transport, Roser Obrer Marco, stressed that the climate is “totally favourable for the different actors involved to work hand in hand”. 

In the case of Mobility ADO’s Director of Strategic Mobility Projects, Antonio García Pastor, who was also part of the round table, pointed out that public transport has advanced a lot in recent years, there is knowledge in terms of technology, and he valued the fact that the aid to begin this transition is on the right track. 

In conclusion, all the participating speakers agreed that without these electric car subsidies, the transition will be difficult, but that prices will gradually become more affordable, so they will not be needed forever.
