E-Distribuzione, Motus-E, and Utilitalia join forces to boost charging infrastructure in Italy

Supporting the development of a nationwide charging station network through a systematic approach between electricity distributors and charging operators is the aim of the Memorandum of Understanding signed by E-Distribuzione, Motus-E, and Utilitalia. This agreement outlines initiatives to facilitate and intensify dialogue between parties through more structured communication channels.

Furthermore, the signatories commit to engaging with municipal authorities to identify the most suitable areas for connection to the electric charging grid during the local tendering process.

Vincenzo Ranieri (E-Distribuzione)

The Protocol also proposes concrete actions to help achieve the transport decarbonisation goals outlined in the PNIEC (National Integrated Energy and Climate Plan) and the PNRR (National Recovery and Resilience Plan).

For instance, it involves identifying areas for building medium- and low-voltage transformation cabins when required.

The document also addresses the management of connection requests for public charging stations and aims to standardise authorisation procedures for infrastructure related to both charging operators and electricity distributors.

“The distribution grid is the enabling element of the energy transition and electrification of consumption,” said Vincenzo Ranieri, CEO of E-Distribuzione.

Fabio Pressi (Motus-E)

“The protocol signed today with Motus-E and Utilitalia reaffirms our commitment to identifying, in full synergy with the two associations, concrete actions to facilitate grid connections for electric vehicle v stations that, thanks to technological innovation, will become increasingly powerful and efficient.”

“This agreement is an important step forward for the spread of electric mobility in Italy and a particularly significant example of cooperation. Given the unavoidable transition to transport electrification, it is essential for various industries and sectors to intensify dialogue and coordinate activities to enable the country to seize all the development opportunities arising from ongoing transformations,” said Fabio Pressi, President of Motus-E.

Filippo Brandolini (Utilitalia)

“The goals set out by the PNIEC for expanding infrastructure to support electric mobility will require a substantial technical, organisational, and financial commitment from electricity distribution network operators in the coming years,” said Filippo Brandolini, President of Utilitalia.

“Utilitalia, representing its members in electricity distribution, has found in E-Distribuzione and Motus-E partners who share the same vision and are committed to creating synergy between industrial sectors with converging objectives.”
