Volkswagen and BMW have managed to dethrone Tesla from the lead in the German electric car market by registering more vehicles than the American company so far in 2024, according to the country’s Motor Transport Authority (KBA) records.
So far in 2024, around 49,200 fully electric Volkswagen vehicles have been registered in Germany, while BMW sales have reached 33,167 units.
However, Tesla registrations have steadily declined over the past ten months, now standing at 31,461 vehicles.
Even so, the demand crisis for electric cars in Germany has only intensified in recent months.
Volkswagen — the main brand of the group of the same name — has sold 9,400 fewer cars than at this point last year, while Tesla has sold 23,300 fewer.
BMW, meanwhile, is on a growth path in its home country, with registrations up by 6,600 units compared to 2023 figures.
