The Joint Office of Energy and Transportation is thrilled to announce the opening of the first electric vehicle (EV) charging station in Texas funded by the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Program.
The state’s first station is strategically located along Interstate 27 in the rural community of Happy, Texas.
Located in the Texas Panhandle region, the Happy NEVI site bolsters EV charging in west Texas and supports interstate travel.
Texas is already the third largest EV market in the nation, and this station improves the ability for all Americans to choose electric, no matter where they live or travel.
The station includes both CCS and J3400 connectors to support more vehicles.
“The addition of the new NEVI charging station will increase rural charging accessibility, enable uninterrupted EV travel along key travel routes, and improve clean mobility choices in rural communities,” says Gabe Klein, executive director of the Joint Office.
He continues: “This new NEVI station will help improve long-haul travel for EV drivers and riders. We congratulate Texas for their work to build out an EV charging network that supports anyone who chooses to ride and drive electric.”
The brand-new charging station features: four ports, 180 kWh max per port with CCS and J3400 connectors on each dispenser.
The Joint Office is working with all 50 states, Washington D.C., and Puerto Rico to ensure the success of the NEVI program, which is now bringing the Biden Administration’s vision of a clean energy future to fruition.
