Siemens installs its first AI-designed sculptural EV charger

Last week, Siemens installed its first AI-designed sculptural installation for the SICHARGE D high-power charger on the Garching campus near Munich, Germany.

Developed under the hashtag Siemens Arts Program, this innovative project merges cutting-edge AI technology with art to transform a functional charging station into a visually striking public installation.

The initiative also contributes to enhancing urban spaces, enriching the visual and cultural landscape of the campus.

The design process began with carefully curated prompts entered into various AI-based image generation tools, producing initial concepts inspired by organic forms.

These ideas were refined through close collaboration with experts in design, statics, and engineering to meet technical requirements and ensure real-world functionality.

The final piece is now fully installed, marking a collaborative step towards integrating technology and art into public spaces.

“While this project highlights the potential of AI in artistic creation, it also prompts reflection on its reliance on extensive training data, which may unintentionally replicate existing works,” says Stephan Frucht, Artistic Director of the Siemens Arts Program.
