ASP S.p.A., the public transport operator in Asti, introduced 17 new E-Buses, marking a European premiere for the Mercedes-Benz eCitaro K. The fleet includes 4 compact eCitaro K units and 13 standard eCitaro 12-metre buses. What features does this new model have?

The four eCitaro K buses, manufactured since the autumn 2024 production launch, are 10.63 metres long and designed for narrow, winding routes in Asti’s historic city centre and suburbs.

With a turning circle of 17.28 metres, they provide high manoeuvrability and smooth handling, making them ideal for dense urban environments.

Each of the 17 new electric buses is equipped with six NMC3 battery packs, offering a maximum capacity of 588 kWh.

This configuration allows for a range of up to 400 km under optimal conditions.

The buses are charged overnight via depot charging stations, ensuring efficient operation without requiring intermediate charging.

Enhanced passenger comfort and safety

The buses, featuring ASP S.p.A.’s signature red-and-white livery, are designed with spacious interiors and accessibility features.

They include two entrance doors for easy boarding, a manually operated wheelchair ramp to assist passengers with reduced mobility, and a high-efficiency heat pump in the air-conditioning system.

For driver and passenger safety, the vehicles are fitted with digital video surveillance, air filtration with antiviral functions, and advanced driver assistance systems such as Brake Assist, Sideguard Assist 2, Frontguard Assist, Traffic Sign Assist, and. Attention Assist.

The eCitaro K buses accommodate 81 passengers, including 26 seated and 54 standing, while the 12-metre eCitaro models provide space for 77 passengers, with 30 seats and 46 standing places.

To ensure long-term availability and cost predictability, ASP S.p.A. has signed a 12-year Omniplus eServiceContract.

This agreement reduces total cost of ownership and enhances fleet uptime through real-time diagnostic data transmission to service workshops, minimising vehicle downtime.

ASP S.p.A. operates public transport, water supply, waste management, and other municipal services in Asti and surrounding areas.

With 47 buses in its fleet, 80% of which are Mercedes-Benz models, the deployment of 17 eCitaro electric buses signals the company’s commitment to electrifying public transport in the Piedmont region.
