The awarded systems include ChargePost and ChargeBox solutions, enabling ultra-fast charging of up to 320 kilowatts even at sites with limited electrical grid connections – a common issue in the region due to grid congestion.
“Limited grid capacity is one of the greatest challenges to scaling fast-charging infrastructure, and this partnership shows that battery storage technology is key to the mobility of the future,” says Thomas Speidel, CEO and founder of ADS-TEC Energy.
Beyond charging: new revenue streams
One of the key features of the ChargePost system is its ability to generate revenue even when no electric vehicle (EV) is being charged.
This is achieved through energy trading and the sale of advertising space on its optional 75-inch display screens.
Geert De Mil, Charging Technology, Systems and Insights Manager at Q8, states: “We are committed to meeting the evolving needs of EV drivers across Belgium and the Netherlands – even at sites where grid capacity is restricted due to congestion.”
“That’s why we are excited to collaborate with ADS-TEC Energy to make this possible.”
Soaring EV demand drives innovation
The need for fast-charging infrastructure is rising rapidly alongside the growth in EV registrations.
In 2024, the Netherlands recorded 132,166 new units, accounting for 34.7% of all new registrations.
In Belgium, 127,908 new EVs were registered in the same period.
In total, there are now around 557,000 EVs in the Netherlands and 280,000 in Belgium.
This surge places pressure on existing charging infrastructure, particularly in regions with limited grid capacity.
Battery-integrated systems offer a viable solution by enabling fast charging without costly grid upgrades.
These systems also help absorb peak loads and maintain a stable energy supply, accelerating the adoption of e-mobility.
