Positive month for the Netherlands: hybrids strengthen lead, EVs show slight rise

In April, 27,157 new passenger cars were registered in the Netherlands. Last year, that number was 28,295, representing a decline of 4.0 per cent. Despite a contraction in total new car sales, the hybrid segment strengthened its leading position in April.

In April, 27,157 new passenger cars were registered in the Netherlands.

Last year, that number was 28,295, representing a decline of 4.0 per cent.

After a 10 per cent drop in the first quarter and even nearly 14 per cent in March, the market appears to be catching its breath in April, with the decline clearly levelling off.

This is according to the most recent figures from BOVAG, RAI Association and RDC.

Despite a contraction in total new car sales, the hybrid segment strengthened its leading position in April: the 13,329 registrations represent a growth of 6.4 per cent and a market share of 49.1 per cent.

The number of fully electric cars rose slightly to 9,206 registrations (+1.5 per cent), accounting for a 33.9 per cent market share.
