Spain launches €1.25 billion PERTE VEC IV to boost EV industry transformation

The new call will be managed by SEPIDES and will focus on battery projects and the electric vehicle value chain.

The Minister of Industry and Tourism, Jordi Hereu, has announced the launch of the fourth call of the Strategic Project for Economic Recovery and Transformation of the Electric and Connected Vehicle (PERTE VEC IV), with a total budget of €1.25 billion€1 billion in loans and €250 million in grants.

A key change in this edition is that it will be fully managed by the State Society for Industrial Promotion and Business Development (SEPIDES). The regulatory bases will be published tomorrow, Friday, in the Official State Gazette (BOE).

In the coming weeks, SEPIDES will open the call focused on battery projects, followed by a second call targeting the electric vehicle value chain.

PERTE VEC IV aims to support the creation of new industrial facilities, the expansion of production capacity at existing plants, and the reconversion of manufacturing lines for innovative products not previously produced in Spain.

During an automotive industry event, Minister Hereu encouraged companies to submit their proposals, stating: “We want to allocate all available funds and continue promoting the country’s industrial transformation.”

He emphasized the importance of anticipating technological shifts to ensure that Spain becomes not only a major vehicle producer but also a hub for advanced mobility solutions.

Since its inception, PERTE VEC has launched three calls that have mobilized nearly €2.5 billion, benefiting around 300 companies across the entire automotive value chain.

The minister also expressed strong support for the automotive sector amid trade-related uncertainties, underlining the industry’s dynamism and competitiveness in the transition to sustainable mobility.

Hereu highlighted recent positive figures in vehicle registrations. In April, passenger car sales rose by 7.1%, reaching approximately 100,000 units. During the first four months of the year, registrations increased by 12.2% compared to the same period in 2024, with electrified vehicle sales growing by 80% year-on-year.
