Macron goes electric: The world’s first President with a 100% EV official car

During the 8 May Armistice Day remembrance, French President Emmanuel Macron participated in the commemorative ceremony aboard the PRESIDENTIAL DS N°8, becoming the first Head of State of a Republic to use an all-electric official vehicle.

The model, specifically developed by DS Automobiles for the Presidency of the French Republic, was unveiled ahead of the market launch of the DS N°8, the brand’s new electric flagship set for release in September 2025.

Equipped with an ACC battery and offering a range of up to 750 kilometres, the PRESIDENTIAL DS N°8 was presented at the Élysée Palace by the brand’s leadership, engineers, and the craftspeople involved in its creation.

Designed with unique features tailored to official and ceremonial duties, the car sports a Sapphire Blue body, black-painted quarter panels, and a DS LUMINASCREEEN grille illuminated with the colours of the French Tricolour. It also includes custom flag holders and blue-white-red badges on both the front and rear.

DS Automobiles maintains a longstanding relationship with the French Presidency. Since the establishment of the Fifth Republic, seven Presidents have used DS or SM models.

In 2017, Macron chose a DS 7 CROSSBACK for his inauguration. In 2021, the DS 7 ÉLYSÉE, a plug-in hybrid with 300 horsepower and four-wheel drive, joined the official fleet.

For the PRESIDENTIAL DS N°8, DS Automobiles collaborated with several French craft houses.

Lison de Caunes created straw marquetry in sea green and midnight blue for the dashboard and door trims. MÉTAPHORES, part of the Hermès group, supplied Dream Blue satin panels, while Atelier Lognon provided pleated textiles for the door panels.

Master upholsterers from DS designed seats covered in Alcantara® and Nappa leather in Dream Blue, featuring pearl stitching, a signature of the brand. All satin and pleated areas were protected and finished by hand.

From a technological perspective, the vehicle was armoured by Centigon, a key supplier to French government institutions.

The battery pack, manufactured by Automotive Cells Company (ACC) in Billy-Berclau Douvrin, supports over 500 km on motorways without charging and allows for 200 km to be regained in just 10 minutes.

The audio system, developed by FOCAL, ensures high-quality acoustics. The PRESIDENTIAL DS N°8 will be on public display at the upcoming RÉVÉLATIONS craft biennial held from 21 to 25 May 2025 at the Grand Palais.
