The Lazio Region, through the regional infrastructure company Astral, has issued a public tender for the supply of 129 fully electric buses aimed at strengthening regional public transport.
The initiative is part of the “PR Lazio ERDF 2021–2027” programme, under the action dedicated to “interventions for the improvement of urban mobility.”
The procurement will be carried out via a framework agreement, with the deadline for submitting bids set for 23 June 2025. A first batch of 80 buses is expected to be delivered immediately under an initial application contract.
The tender specifies that the vehicles must be Class I, fully electric buses, measuring between 7.75 and 8.50 metres in length, equipped with a wheelchair-accessible ramp, and covered by a warranty and maintenance service. Each unit has an estimated value of €380,000.
The total value of the procedure amounts to €64.1 million, of which €49 million is allocated to vehicle supply, while the remaining €15 million will be reserved for additional resources available to the contracting authority. The first application contract is expected to involve an investment of €38.6 million.
The vehicles will also be fitted with internal and external video surveillance systems as standard equipment.
According to the technical specifications, the traction batteries—whether original or replacement—must have a minimum service life of eight years from the vehicle’s registration date. Over this period, they must retain at least 80% of their initially declared range.
Furthermore, the buses are required to guarantee a minimum urban cycle range of 150 kilometres throughout the entire battery lifespan. This requirement aims to ensure the operational efficiency of the fleet across regional routes without compromising service continuity.
