The EU Records Nearly 1 Million Public Chargers in June

June was a good month for electromobility: over 21,000 public chargers were installed. In addition, fully electric vehicles dominated registrations. Which model replaced the Tesla Model Y?

The European Union public charging network kept its steady climb in June 2025.

By month-end there were 825,326 alternating current (AC) points and 166,018 direct current (DC) fast-chargers—an addition of roughly 16,300 AC and 4,800 DC outlets since May.

That progress keeps Europe on track for Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation (AFIR) goals, but with electrification accelerating, policymakers and operators will need to fast-track permits and grid upgrades to stay ahead of demand.

Electric power dominates

According to the latest figures, pure-electric drive remains in pole position.

In the passenger-car segment (M1), battery electric vehicles (BEVs) accounted for 15.23% of new registrations—still well ahead of plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) at 9.45 %.

Liquified petroleum gas crept up to 3.33%, while CNG and fuel-cell models stayed virtually flat at 0.01% and 0.001%, respectively.

Over in light-commercial vans (N1), BEVs held about 7.72%, with PHEVs at 1.16%, LPG and CNG each under 0.6%, and hydrogen still at zero.

Top BEV models in June 2025

Competition stayed fierce in June’s registration league:

  • Škoda Elroq BEV stormed into the lead with 7 831 units
  • Tesla Model Y held strong in second at 6 387
  • Volkswagen’s ID.7ID.3 and ID.4 all landed in the top five with 5 3684 961 and 4 929 registrations
  • Kia EV3 notched 4 486, and Renault 5 / Alpine A290 posted 4 221
  • BMW iX1 hit 4 109, while Audi Q6 e-tron jumped in at 4 066
  • Škoda Enyaq rounded out the top ten at 3 931

Škoda’s Elroq surge and Audi’s Q6 e-tron debut underscore how both volume brands and premium marques are battling for BEV supremacy.

Legacy mass-market stalwarts aren’t giving up ground, even as fintech-style disruptors push hard on features and software.
