Sungrow, a global leader in solar inverters and energy storage solutions, is now making a bold move to position itself at the forefront of electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure in Spain.
What’s the strategy? Strengthening local presence through European development and local support.
From its R&D centre in Amsterdam, the company adapts charger designs to suit the needs of European users.
In parallel, its Pamplona hub provides immediate response with a national warehouse, training and repair centre, and a highly specialised technical team.
“We want to give the market what it’s asking for: tailor-made products, local support, and immediate availability,” says Luis Sanz Figueras, Sales Manager for Charging at Sungrow Spain, in conversation with Mobility Portal Europe.
The European R&D team, made up of around 20 people in the Netherlands, works closely with local markets to fine-tune key features: hose weight, usability, and compatibility with multiple payment systems.
“Our goal is for the customer to just plug in and charge. We want a lightweight charger, with plug & charge functionality, scalability, and card payment compatibility. All of this is designed specifically for Europe,” Sanz explains.
Versatile range with fast and ultra-fast solutions
Among the flagship models is the IDC180E, a 180 kW fast charger designed for public and commercial use.
Also noteworthy is the IDC480E, unveiled at Power2Drive Europe, offering up to 500 kW and built for fleets, buses, and electric trucks.
Together with the satellite IDC480E and other DC charging solutions, clients gain access to a scalable range for various use cases.
Sungrow also offers the AC011E-01, an 11 kW three-phase AC charger ideal for residential and corporate fleets.
All chargers can be integrated with the iEnergyCharge platform, enabling smart charging management, remote monitoring, and RFID or app-based control.
The Sungrow formula: intelligent, effective, and immediate response
From its tech centre in Pamplona, Sungrow operates with a structure that blends technical support, training, and product availability. The facilities include:
• A national warehouse with stock ready for delivery in under 24 hours
• A local repair and after-sales centre, eliminating delays from factory shipments
• A live showroom featuring all models in operation
• A training centre for partners and installers
Out of Sungrow’s 100 employees in Spain, around 40 are dedicated exclusively to after-sales service.
“That’s one of our key differentiators. We want to stand by the customer, respond quickly, and build long-term relationships. It’s not enough to sell the charger — you have to be there afterwards,” notes Sanz.
Integration: chargers, batteries, and inverters in a single system
Sungrow is committed to a 360° vision of the energy transition.
As a manufacturer of inverters, batteries, and chargers, it can deliver fully integrated solutions.
“Many of our customers come from the solar sector. They’ve bought inverters from us and now want to add batteries or chargers to build hybrid systems. Our advantage is that everything connects through a single management system,” explains Sanz.
This approach is especially relevant in locations with limited grid capacity.
“Some CPOs want to install chargers in areas with just 50 kW available, but they need 180 kW. In those cases, we combine chargers and batteries to solve the bottleneck,” he adds.
The company already has projects underway combining solar, storage, and charging — particularly in logistics hubs and interurban locations.
Heavy-duty transport: Sungrow’s next big move
According to Sungrow, the e-truck and e-bus segment is beginning to gain momentum in Spain.
While passenger transport is ahead, more logistics companies are now exploring high-power charging solutions.
“We’re being approached by companies already working with us in solar. They want to transition to eMobility and are looking for a partner they can trust,” says Sanz.
The company has already received concrete orders for heavy-duty charging projects, signalling steady growth in the segment.
In this context, the compact and satellite IDC480E are positioned as key bets for the future.
Competition, pricing, and a clear roadmap
Sanz acknowledges that competition is rising, but insists Sungrow aims to stand out in product quality and after-sales support.
“We’re price-competitive, but our product is premium. We don’t aim to be the cheapest — we aim to work best and be there when the customer needs us,” he emphasises.
“The market is preparing for significant growth. We believe we’re arriving at the perfect time to position ourselves as a manufacturer of innovative chargers,” he adds.
Sungrow’s roadmap in Spain is clear: territorial presence, fast response capacity, European-driven innovation, and integrated solutions — all under one brand.
“We want to grow alongside our clients, add value through technology, and build long-lasting partnerships. That’s how we commit to electric mobility in Spain,” concludes Sanz.
