Extra MSA, Private operator of motorway service areas in the United Kingdom (UK), has announced the expansion of its partnership with IONITY, a high-power charging network for electric vehicle (EV) brands, to support the transition to electromobility.
The company has brought into operation 24 ultra-rapid 350 kilowatts (kW) charge points at Cambridge (A14/M11, J24), Cobham (M25 J9/10) and Peterborough Services (A1(M) J17 & A605).
Further expansion is planned at Leeds Skelton Lake (M1 J45), Blackburn (M65 J4) and Baldock Services (A1(M) J10) between now and the end of the year.
Extra MSA was the first motorway service area operator to exceed the UK Government’s target of installing at least six chargers at each location.
The company aims to further reduce waiting times and ensure smoother journeys by adding more units.
All energy powering IONITY’s chargers comes from 100% renewable sources, through its partnership with supplier Octopus, making charging emissions-free.
Tom Dobson, Chief Executive of Extra MSA Group, states that IONITY’s 350kW ultra-fast chargers “are among the most powerful and economical available, reflecting the commitment to invest in the best possible customer experience”.
Andreas Atkins, Country Manager UK & Ireland at IONITY, highlights that the increase to 24 chargers at Cambridge, Cobham and Peterborough “demonstrates the demand for more sustainable travel” and reaffirms the company’s commitment to doubling the number of public stations and charge points in the UK for the third consecutive year.
