UVE calls for urgent action amid vandalism targeting charging points in Portugal

In response to a growing wave of vandalism against electric vehicle (EV) charging points in Portugal, the Associação de Utilizadores de Veículos Elétricos (UVE) has issued a formal communication to the relevant authorities, urging immediate action to address the situation.

According to the statement, the incidents mainly involve the theft of charging cables, resulting in dozens of essential units being taken out of service and impacting the daily routines of EV users.

UVE has expressed confidence in the work carried out by security forces and confirmed it is in contact with the Ministry of Internal Administration, the Lisbon Metropolitan Command of the PSP, and the General Command of the GNR.

The association also reiterated its full availability to cooperate with authorities and support the swift identification and accountability of those responsible for these criminal acts.

It emphasised the need for immediate and decisive action to safeguard the national public charging network and uphold public confidence in the ongoing energy transition.
