Spain’s eMobility market continues to break records in vehicle electrification.
During August, 61,315 passenger cars were registered, and of these, 14,939 were electrified (BEV + PHEV), meaning that one in every four vehicles sold that month was a plug-in model.
This figure represents a year-on-year growth of 162% compared to the same month in 2024, according to an analysis by Mobility Portal Data (MPD) based on data from ANFAC.
Looking more closely at the figures, within the electrified segment, fully electric vehicles (BEVs) accounted for 7,032 units in August. This equates to an 11.5% market share and a year-on-year growth of 161%.
Specifically, one in every nine vehicles registered in Spain was 100% electric.
Meanwhile, plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs) reached 7,907 units, representing a 163% increase and a 12.9% share of the passenger car market.
These numbers reflect that the transition to plug-in vehicles is accelerating across all fronts, with an increasing number of options now available at Spanish dealerships.
Top 5 best-selling electric vehicles

The models most chosen by Spanish consumers were:
- Tesla Model 3 – 1,146 units
- Kia EV3 – 476 units
- BYD Dolphin Surf – 451 units
- Toyota bZ4X – 358 units
- Renault R5 – 320 units
The Tesla Model 3 maintained its position as market leader, although the month was also shaped by the impact of new model launches.
The Renault R5, with a year-on-year increase of over 25,000%, and the Toyota bZ4X, up 699%, demonstrate the strength of new entrants in the electric era.
Businesses: the driving force behind the eMobility transition
A breakdown by sales channel reveals that businesses accounted for 62% of electrified registrations in August, highlighting corporate fleet renewal as the main driver of the market.
Private individuals made up 30% of the total, with year-on-year growth of 129%, showing that interest among Spanish households is also on the rise.
Finally, rental car companies accounted for 8.5% of sales, with an impressive 278% increase compared to August 2024, driven by the tourism sector’s growing commitment to more sustainable offerings.
A market in transformation
The cumulative market share for the year also confirms that the transition is maintaining a positive trend.
Between January and August, 138,254 electrified passenger cars were sold, representing 18% of the total market – nearly double the figure for 2024.
With one in every four cars registered in August being electrified, the Spanish market is accelerating its transformation towards cleaner and more sustainable mobility.
The coming months will be key to consolidating this growth and maintaining the momentum that is already reshaping the country’s vehicle fleet.
