Manchester-based charging network Be.EV has sealed an exclusive deal with sporting goods provider Decathlon to deploy ultra-rapid EV chargers at select stores nationwide.

This marks Decathlon UK’s inaugural collaboration with a public charging network, with Be.EV set to introduce its cutting-edge ultra-rapid charging solutions to Decathlon stores where feasible.

Several locations are already in the works across various stores in the UK, with Decathlon’s Stockport site leading the charge as the first to host a charging hub.

As one of the largest stores in the UK, spanning over 52,000 sq ft, the Stockport store will feature 16 ultra-rapid charging bays.

Receiving up to 20,000 visitors per week and strategically located minutes from the M60, which sees an average of over 83,000 vehicles a day, the Stockport site is expected to cater to the close to 2700 registered EVs in the area.

Equipped with state-of-the-art Kempower chargers, drivers can charge their vehicles to 80% in as little as 20 minutes.

This aligns with Decathlon’s customer dwell time of approximately 30 minutes.

The chargers boast unique load-balancing capabilities, intelligently distributing energy supply between vehicles based on capacity and demand for an efficient and convenient charging experience.

Be.EV, backed by £110 million from Octopus Energy Generation, is dedicated to accelerating the UK’s EV revolution sustainably.

The company aims to enhance communities by installing reliable chargers throughout the country.

This partnership is a pivotal step in Decathlon’s Transition 2026 plan, designed to achieve a 20% reduction in CO2 emissions by 2026.

Construction of the charging hub at the Stockport site has commenced, with completion expected in April 2024.
