Jema Energy maintains the premise of developing solutions for heavy-duty vehicles by customizing the performance of its equipment.
In a context where charging with refrigerated hoses, the Megawatt Charging System (MCS), and the pantograph are increasingly prominent, the Spanish company aims to actively participate in European working groups that define these standards.
In the “eMobility Book: Charge Infrastructure 2023,” Eduardo Segura, Key Account Manager of the company, highlights: “What best defines Jema Energy is its ability to adapt to customer needs and the demand for new solutions in the sectors where it operates.”
In the eBook jointly created by Mobility Portal España and Mobility Portal Latinoamérica, the company showcases its SIGMA charger, one of the stars in its catalog.
This is the most advanced charging system of the company.
This device, with a power ranging from 60 kW to 540 kW and featuring up to four DC outputs, allows the charging of vehicles through hoses and/or pantographs.
It can be onboard the vehicle or inverted, providing flexibility in customer installations. Specially designed and manufactured to meet the charging needs of electric buses and trucks, the SIGMA offers various connection and power options.
Its modular design, consisting of multiple internal modules, ensures higher performance, easy maintenance with minimal interventions, and significant modular possibilities.
Currently, the company is immersed in the development of the bidirectional SIGMA.
Success Case of Jema Energy
According to Eduardo Segura, one of Jema Energy’s highlighted projects in 2023 was the implementation at the Carabanchel Operations Center of the Municipal Transport Company (EMT) in Madrid.
The challenge posed by the client was to create a modern cable-free garage where a high-power charger could supply multiple vehicles.
“We were facing a project that required a flexible product easily adaptable to their needs,” he explains.
In response, the company adapted the 360 kW SIGMA chargers to provide three outputs each.
Thus, each charger allows charging the batteries of three buses simultaneously at 120 kW using inverted pantographs installed in a canopy.
In the case of connecting one or two vehicles, the charging power adjusts proportionally.
Thanks to this project, they managed a total of 180 serviced vehicles with 60 chargers.
They also automated the charging process to reduce the margin of error by using inverted pantographs, managing the 180 devices and their corresponding WiFi antennas in parallel.
The final result was a cable-free garage, providing more space for the vehicles.
Innovations for 2024
The SIGMA charger is not the only one that stands out in Jema Energy’s catalog.
The most recent launch has been the GAMMA family, a pantograph charging system in which the charging modules and the pantograph itself are integrated into a single structure.
This design is ideal for projects with space limitations.
The entire charger and power electronics are integrated into the mast of the pantograph support structure or in the charging bell, in the case of a unit incorporated into the vehicle.
This demonstrates the company’s flexibility to adapt to the specific needs of each customer.
One of Jema’s most significant investments this year will be the project for Barcelona, which includes the implementation of 41 GAMMA chargers.
Additionally, in their ongoing commitment to developing new transport solutions, the company is looking forward to the upcoming launch of the Megawatt Charging System.
This high-power charger is designed for heavy commercial electric vehicles, especially trucks and buses weighing over 12 tonnes.
The MCS has the capacity to reach up to 4.5 MW of charging power per vehicle, tripling the maximum current supported by current pantographs and multiplying the maximum limit of conventional hoses by 51.
