Automakers investing in the electromobility market in Chile will add new electrified models to their portfolio during 2024.
Some made their announcements during the last months of 2023, while others prefer to keep the information a bit more reserved.
And perhaps, some others have not yet decided whether they will expand their offering of this technology and will share it in the long course that still remains in 2024.
It is worth mentioning that, according to the projections of the strategic research provider BloombergNEF (BNEF), the overall outlook is positive.
Sales of electric vehicles are expected to reach a new record in 2024, with projections of 16.7 million for the passenger segment and one million for commercial vehicles.
BNEF forecasts a 20% share of new electric car sales and predicts that their circulation will exceed 57 million, accounting for over 4% of the global car fleet. This record-breaking sales figure could impact fuel consumption in some countries.
So, this is what is known so far about the new electrified models that will be marketed this year in Chile:
Volvo
In September, the regional presentation of the Volvo EX30 took place in Rio de Janeiro.
According to the information provided, it would become the most affordable premium electric vehicle in Chile.
The EX30 has already started its regional pre-sale, but in Chile, it will begin to take effect at the beginning of 2024. Deliveries are expected to start between March and April.
Chevrolet
General Motors’ regional plan sees the Bolt EUV as the cornerstone of its electric push.
It would be accompanied by Equinox EV and Blazer EV in the coming months.
The Bolt EUV would be sold in Chile at a price of 46,490,000 pesos (44,490,000 pesos with Chevy Plan financing) and with preferential prices for fleets, close to 40 million pesos.
BYD
The Asian company is going all-in in this market by adding the new Tang, the Seagull EV which will be called Dolphin Mini, and the new Seal.
In addition to these updates, the lineup will include the first PHEV pick-up, the refreshed Song Plus DM-i, the Sea Lion, the Yuan Up, and the plug-in hybrids Song Plus Pro DM-i and Tang DM-i.
Mazda
Some companies took advantage of the Experience E space to launch their novelties, as was the case with the new Mazda SUV CX-90.
This vehicle features a turbocharged six-cylinder inline engine with 3.3 liters, paired with a 48-volt mild hybrid system.
JAC
JAC will debut its new range of electric vehicles in Chile, led by the E-JS4 SUV.
MG
MG, the British-origin brand with Chinese production, announced the MG 4 for 2024, a 100% electric hatchback with 5 stars Euro NCAP safety rating and a range of up to 450 km WLTP.
On the other hand, the aerodynamically designed and technologically advanced MG Cyberster also emerges as one of the great novelties that will land in Chile this year, bearing the title of being the brand’s first sports car.
Tesla
The big news at the South American level is the arrival of Tesla, choosing Chile as the first country in the region.
For now, sales would start with the Model 3 and Model Y.
JIM
JIM has already confirmed its arrival in the national market during the first semester of 2024. It is a brand of pickup trucks from the JMC group and will arrive hand in hand with Gildemeister.
Jaecoo
The company promised that the first launch of the year will be the Jaecoo 7, followed by its plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variant.

Ora
Great Wall Motors (GWM) introduced its new product line focused on fully electric vehicles in Chile: Ora.
It debuts in the country with the Ora 03 model, a hatchback available in two versions.
From now on, this is not all, and surely other brands will join, seeing Chile as a promising market for vehicle electrification.
In fact, during the second half of 2023, homologations of electrified units were carried out that do not yet have a commercialization date in the country.
