Electric taxis have already been proven to offer greater long-term profitability compared to combustion ones.

Consequently, Joinup, the platform specialized in corporate mobility management, supports the sector in the decarbonization of its vehicles, enabling savings in both time and money.

What are the keys to achieving this transition?

“We assist our clients in the adoption of electric fleets, first by ensuring the choice and arrival of the vehicle and, subsequently, by facilitating its recharging,” says Elena Peyró, CEO of the firm, to Mobility Portal España.

To do this, the company offers an application that integrates various energy operators, preventing the taxi driver from having to download multiple apps and allowing them to select the charger that best suits their needs, whether in the city or on the road.

This personalized mobility platform provides the user with a 360º view of all their land mobility.

At the same time, it speeds up tedious tasks for the employee such as “requesting the vehicle, searching for parking, saving tickets, filling out expense notes, justifying mileage,” among others.

“We are the only application today that allows you to book a taxi,” says Peyró.

It should be noted that this multi-service platform provides coverage throughout the national territory.

With a priority focus on Madrid and Barcelona, due to the high number of trips and the significant impact on reducing the carbon footprint, the company also has a wide presence in Bilbao, Zaragoza, Malaga, Valencia, among other cities.

Currently, in the capital, Join Up has 97 per cent of the Eco fleet, and the goal this year is to reach 100 per cent.

“We also aspire to increase the electric fleet by around 40 per cent, because we know that the Eco is not enough to reduce the footprint,” emphasizes the CEO.

In Barcelona, the proportion of cars with an Eco label is around 80 per cent, with the goal of achieving 90 per cent and increasing the number of electric vehicles.

In this sense, he maintains: “On a general level, we will continue working, especially in the cities, following an order of priority from greatest to least movement. It is ambitious, but let’s go for it.”

The taxi sector represents one of the most promising electrification opportunities to promote the sustainability of urban mobility.

The mileage of these vehicles is considerably greater than that of a private car, which allows them to amortize the investment made more quickly and, therefore, obtain a greater profit.

In this framework, the Business Association for the Development and Promotion of Electric Mobility (AEDIVE) proposes a strategy that includes incentives for the renewal of current cars for electric ones.

As well as suggesting a linked charging plan for those taxi drivers who have the possibility of “refueling” their cars during the night or at time intervals when they are stopped throughout the day.

Not only this, but it also proposes the deployment of a public rapid charging infrastructure in the main Spanish cities.

In this regard, Joinup affirms that companies are committed to meeting the objectives.

“We carried out a study after the pandemic and observed that 63 per cent more taxi drivers had opted for Eco cars instead of high-end cars,” details Peyró.

And he highlights: “This percentage has been rising, multiplying year after year, and continues to increase.”

The company collaborates closely with companies, communicating to them the improvements they will experience, estimating the savings they will obtain and optimizing their work processes, among other aspects, through the adoption of Eco vehicles.

“Our goal is for our clients to achieve a zero environmental footprint, it is part of our DNA,” underlines Elena Peyró.

In fact, he assures that the first Tesla taxi that circulated in Spain, located in Bilbao, belongs to Joinup.
