Juice: “Partnering with CPOs globally to deploy our technology will remove barriers and save time for users”

Juice’s computer vision platform facilitates app and card-free EV charging and parking experiences. Currently, it is working with select partner operators to deploy the service in new markets. How does it work, and what benefits does it offer?

Through its flexible platform and via computer vision and artificial intelligence, Juice enables operators of all types to ensure hassle-free experiences for drivers, making sustainable transport accessible, simple, and profitable.

“We work with charge point operators (CPOs) to implement this technology to help millions of end users, saving billions of minutes of time wasted on inefficient processes globally,” says Jan Schulte, CRO and Co-Founder at Juice, in an interview with Mobility Portal Europe.

The company hopes “to Juice-enable every vehicle on the planet.”

They are also working hand in hand with parking operators, electric vehicle (EV) supply equipment companies, and charge management software providers.

According to Schulte, many of the firms they talk to focus on infrastructure, cars, and batteries, but not on the end-user and their daily experience.

“Having to register with different apps, use various cards, and use often-broken payment terminals constitutes a universal problem people face every day,” says the CRO.

These are the barriers Juice seeks to eliminate, regardless of what vehicle they have, or which charger they want to use.

“We use our computer vision platform to eliminate all these barriers,” explains Schulte.

He continues: “We call it Face ID for mobility: We recognise a vehicle as an object and identify its Make, Model, colour, and plate, as well as a number of other security checks in the background. Then, we automatically start a charging or parking session.”

The computer vision platform automates authentication, eliminating RFID cards, apps, and manual operations.

Despite being ‘app-less’, users can manage a profile, payments and invoices effortlessly through an easy-to-use web profile.

“Imagine driving your EV and charging without needing to use your credit card or download yet another app. This is the future, and it’s open to everyone and every vehicle” says James Murfin, CEO & Founder at Juice.

He adds: “Our solution is superior: Easier to implement and faster to bring to market than any other.”

However, he acknowledges that education is crucial because “many still believe in obsolete charging methods, or aren’t focused on the users.”

How can customers access Juice’s solution?

Juice taps into onsite security cameras or uses lightweight, cost-effective networked cameras near charging bays and has an extremely elegant way to plug into existing back-end systems.

“We sit silently between the charging infrastructure and any back-end management system. We also work with our partners to leverage our APIs to build custom experiences,” says Schulte.

The solution, which is offered globally, is the same for all markets from a technological point of view, although with some considerations regarding data privacy and storage.

“Some of the companies we talk to ask us to keep their users’ and customers’ data in their specific region or country,” says Schulte.

Since Juice is cloud-based, the company can easily do this.

Current projects

Currently, Juice is working on its “largest” initiative in partnership with an operator in North America.

“It’s an important project for us, covering the three main EV charging superhubs in one of the world’s busiest cities,” reveals Schulte.

This initiative was launched in May at charging hubs in across New York.

The company is also working with five other global partners to implement its technology for the first time in those countries.

“We are doing this in Australia and South Africa, and with other companies in the United States and Canada, and across Europe” he adds.

Finally, it is worth mentioning that in May, xCharge launched the first “Juice-compatible” electric vehicle charger available to the public worldwide.

Located at its headquarters in Austin, Texas, this station revolutionises the user experience by offering automatic, seamless charging without the need for interaction.
