Tenders: What Are the Latest Announcements to Drive the Rollout of Charging Points?

As the transition to electric mobility continues to advance, the autonomous communities are accelerating their pace towards electrification by promoting public tenders for the supply and installation of charging points.

These initiatives are essential to meet the needs of an increasing number of electric car users, who demand adequate infrastructure to keep pace with the growth of the vehicle fleet.

According to the latest data from the Business Association for the Development and Promotion of Electric Mobility (AEDIVE), the public network in the national territory already has more than 34,000 “refueling” stations.

The charger must have a maximum power of 22 kW

This initiative, also part of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, seeks to promote the adoption of zero-emission cars in rural areas.

Among the most interesting tenders, the project of the City Council of Córdoba stands out, which has announced the upcoming opening of a public tender for the installation of 100 electric vehicle charging points.

According to Bernardo Jordano de la Torre, Deputy Mayor for Mobility, Inclusion and Accessibility, this initiative aims to double the current infrastructure offer in the city.

This project is part of a public concession model, in which the successful bidder will be responsible for the installation and operation of the points in exchange for the use of public space.

This approach has proven effective in other cities such as Seville, Zaragoza and Bilbao, allowing for an expansion of charging infrastructure without major public investment.

According to Jordano de la Torre, “there will probably be three lots for those 100 points and they will be spread across the map,” with semi-fast and ultra-fast charging points strategically located in the center and at the entrances to Córdoba.

The application for tender is expected to take place before the end of September.

“It should be in the bidding process before the end of October and awarded before the end of the year,” he anticipates to Mobility Portal España.

Madrid is also joining the race with an ambitious tender opened on August 19 for the concession of private use of a plot at Calle Juan Mieg 13, where a 2 MW battery charging station will be built.

With an estimated value of 2,550,000 euros, the concession will last for 15 years, during which the successful bidder will be responsible for the construction and management of the station.

As well as payment to the distribution company for connection fees and other work necessary to ensure adequate electricity supply.

This station will be equipped with rapid charging systems, capable of serving both light commercial vehicles and passenger vehicles, with powers of up to 150 kW.

Interested companies must demonstrate rigorous technical and professional solvency, thus ensuring that only the most capable can participate in this project.

The deadline for submitting bids is October 2, 2024.
