“Heavy” Bet: Alpitronic to Launch Charger for eTrucks and Expand to Other Regions

Alpitronic is already involved in heavy vehicle charging, for example, in partnership with Mercedes-Benz Truck. However, far from staying in its comfort zone, the company is now planning the launch of a new product. Not only that, but it also has ambitious expansion plans.

In a bid not to be left behind in the transition, more and more companies are beginning to invest in heavy vehicle chargers, and Alpitronic is no exception.

Aarão Rocha, Key Account Manager Iberia at Alpitronic.

“We are working to launch a new product soon that can meet the new demand for charging trucks and buses,” says Aarão Rocha, Key Account Manager Iberia at Alpitronic, in an interview with Mobility Portal Europe.

“Once again, we are going to bring to market a distinctive product that meets customer needs,” he adds.

It’s worth noting that the company is already involved in heavy vehicle charging.

In fact, Alpitronic has been chosen as a strategic partner of Mercedes-Benz Trucks, which now offers a comprehensive package including charging stations for customers’ depots.

The launch in Germany took place at the end of May 2024 with pilot projects in several dealerships, followed by a rollout that will gradually include other European countries.

Alpitronic, aiming to be a leader in the fast and ultra-fast charging market, is offering its products across Europe.

“In Iberia, we are taking the first steps, but we want to show what we are capable of and earn respect in one of the most competitive markets in Europe due to the presence of renowned competitors,” says Rocha.

The company claims to have positioned itself as one of the leading suppliers in the European market, mainly due to the high power density and reliability of its products.

Another key factor in their success is their extensive service network, with over 200 technicians operating across the continent.

Far from focusing solely on the European region, the company has expansion plans.

“We have opened a plant in the United States to serve the North American market, and we have plans to gradually increase our presence in Central America, South America, and Asia,” asserts the Key Account Manager.

Alpitronic and Its Commitment to Innovation

Since 2017, the company, whose DNA is rooted in power electronics development, has focused on the development and production of the “Hypercharger” model series. The term characterises the line of modular and highly sophisticated direct current (DC) fast-charging solutions.

Currently, Alpitronic’s stations are becoming the preferred choice for many public fast-charging infrastructure operators.

Allego, Atlante, BayWa r.e., BKW Energy, Plenitude, Circle K, Electra, EnBW, Engie Vianeo, E.ON, EVIQ, EWE Go, Fastned, galp, mer, GP JOULE, Milence, NEOGY, Shell, Total Energy, Recharge, UNO-X Mobility, and Zunder are some of the companies that have already placed their trust in Alpitronic.

“The HYC150_300 is the charger that has given us our reputation, but that comes with a set of responsibilities and a strong focus on our new products like the HYC50, HYC200, and HYC400,” explains Rocha.

He adds: “We are going to introduce a completely innovative user interface that will help users better understand the charging process.”

Additionally, the company has introduced a granularity of 50 kilowatts, which allows for better power distribution between outlets on chargers ranging from 100 to 400 kilowatts.

“For the 50 kilowatts, we see this as a ‘game changer’ in terms of charging in garages, fleets, some supermarkets with power limitations, and it can replace alternating current (AC) charging (2×22) without a super high cost,” he comments.

What is the current state of electromobility in Italy?

Alpitronic was founded in 2009 in South Tyrol, Italy. There, the penetration of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) remains relatively low compared to other European countries.

“BEVs will account for approximately four pre cent of new registrations in 2024,” says Rocha.

Not only that, but government incentives, such as the Ecobonus introduced this year, were quickly exhausted.

However, when it comes to the recharging sector, Italy boasts a “well-developed” infrastructure.

It has one of the highest ratios of charging points per BEV in Europe, both for AC and DC charging,” says the Key Account Manager.

Additionally, significant progress has recently been made in expanding high-power charging (HPC) infrastructure, particularly along motorways.

Furthermore, as part of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), the country is dedicating around 8.7 billion euros to developing a DC charging infrastructure, focusing on urban fast charging and covering up to 80 per cent of installation costs to promote the adoption of sustainable mobility.
