New AutoMotive has launched a tool to track the growth of Europe’s battery supply chain, and the figures are striking.
So far, 30,600 jobs have been recorded in gigafactories, 62,000 across the wider battery supply chain, and 37 industrial projects are currently in progress.
And this is just the beginning.
With continued investment and the right policies in place, New AutoMotive projects that battery-related jobs in Europe could rise to between 202,800 and 312,000 by 2030.
That’s real jobs, in real facilities, with real potential.
It represents the creation of up to a quarter of a million new jobs, driven by Europe’s transition to clean transport.
Policy Will Set the Pace
But none of this is a given.
The battery industry relies on strong, stable support for electric vehicles (EVs).
If policymakers choose to water down EV targets or delay the phase-out of petrol and diesel cars, the entire supply chain could stall.
This would put thousands of jobs at risk—especially in countries depending on battery investments to drive regional growth.
There are still hundreds of thousands of jobs to secure, and Europe must ramp up its political support, using tools like this tracker to guide decision-making.
Interactive Battery Supply Chain Tracker
To support this growth, New AutoMotive has developed the European Battery Supply Chain Tracker.
This interactive map tracks gigafactories, mining operations, refining projects, battery recycling plants and more.
It’s the first tool of its kind to visualise where and how the battery industry is expanding across the continent.
Whether people work in government, business or the media, the tracker makes it easy to see where jobs are being created—and where further support is needed to accelerate growth.
