BMW announces model updates for summer: Efficiency, digitalisation, and new features

The German manufacturer is set to introduce a series of enhancements across both electric and combustion-engine vehicles, with a focus on energy efficiency, digital functionality and expanded standard equipment.

From summer 2025, BMW will roll out updates to several of its models. Notably, the BMW i4 will benefit from new power electronics using silicon carbide (SiC) semiconductors, which are expected to reduce energy consumption by approximately 4.5% and increase driving range by up to 22 kilometres, depending on the vehicle configuration.

These updates will apply to the i4 eDrive35 and i4 eDrive40. A new top-of-the-range version, the BMW i4 M60 xDrive, will also be introduced, offering 442 kW (601 hp) and 0 to 100 km/h acceleration in just 3.7 seconds.

From July 2025, several BMW models will come with Comfort Access and BMW Digital Key as standard.

The pairing process has been simplified, and the key can now be shared with up to 18 devices, with configurable user permissions. Models receiving this update include the 1, 2, 5, and 7 Series, along with the X1, X2, X5, X6, X7, and XM SUVs.

A tyre repair kit will become standard on the BMW 1 Series, 2 Series Coupé and Gran Coupé, 3 Series, and 4 Series. For the X3 (except the 30e xDrive plug-in hybrid), an optional Plus kit will be available.

Since April 2025, all BMW electric models benefit from a free extended high-voltage battery warranty, valid for eight years or up to 160,000 kilometres, covering capacity loss below 70%.

Additional updates for the 1 Series and 2 Series Gran Coupé include heated front seats and alarm systems as standard. The M Technology II package for the M135 xDrive and M235 xDrive Gran Coupé now features M-branded seatbelts.

New exterior paint colours will be introduced, including Fire Red metallic, Night Dusk Blue, and Dune Grey metallic for the X1, X2, and 2 Series Active Tourer. Interior options expand with new perforated Veganza and Econeer Bicolour Blue upholstery choices.

The BMW X3 will offer optional M door sill trims for vehicles equipped with the M Sport package, while the iX gains an exclusive Frozen Pure Grey metallic paint finish.

The high-performance X5 M Competition and X6 M Competition will be available with the new Ultimate package, which includes carbon-fibre accents, Bowers & Wilkins Diamond surround sound, massage seats, the Comfort package, and an increased top speed of up to 290 km/h.

Digital features also receive significant upgrades. The BMW iDrive system, running on Operating System 9, will add a second voice option for the Intelligent Personal Assistant, Amazon Alexa integration, and Zoom app support for video calls while stationary.

From July 2025, the Parking Assistant Plus will include visual detection of parking bay lines, and BMW Maps will receive a redesigned interface as part of Operating System 8.5.

Finally, the BMW Configurator will allow direct preview of Individual paint finishes without the need for the separate Visualiser tool.
