Circle K has over the past year increased its number of charging points for heavy vehicles by an impressive 93%, and is now finally opening its first charger with a capacity of 1000 kilowatts (kW), equivalent to one megawatt (MW).
At the same time, the market’s most powerful CCS charger is being commissioned at the station in Värnamo, Sweden– three charging bays offering up to 600 kW.
“We’ve had an exceptional year – among other things, we opened our first dedicated charging station, Circle K Järna was named the third-best charging station in the world, and now we’re the first to launch the most powerful charger on the market,” says Lennart Olsson, Head of Heavy Vehicle Charging at Circle K.
“We’ve been preparing for the megawatt charging system (MCS) for many years, so it’s incredibly exciting to finally cut the ribbon.”
Back in 2022, Circle K opened Scandinavia’s first heavy vehicle charger at Vädermotet in Gothenburg, and since then, the network has expanded rapidly and efficiently.
Today, the chain offers charging tailored for heavy vehicles all the way from Malmö in the south to Kiruna in the north.
The charging points are strategically located along the most common routes for heavy traffic, thereby supporting the electrification journey of the transport sector.
“I’ve been involved since the very beginning, and it’s incredibly exciting to now look back at the significant expansion we’ve achieved,” Olsson states.
“Being the operator that has taken the most comprehensive approach to the transition – for both heavy and light traffic – is something we’re immensely proud of, and we’re happy to share our insights along the way.”
This marks the beginning of a new phase in the electrification of heavy transport, with more MCS chargers set to open soon.
