The Federal Office for Roads (ASTRA) is supporting private initiatives to expand the charging infrastructure for electric vehicles (EVs).
Five companies have been awarded contracts to establish fast charging hubs along national roads, further advancing electromobility in Switzerland.
A dense network of fast charging stations is currently being developed along rest areas on national roads.
As part of the Electromobility Roadmap, ASTRA launched a project call on 12 February 2024 to make additional areas available along national roads for the establishment of fast charging hubs, thereby promoting the charging infrastructure.
Five lots, each comprising eleven parcels distributed across Switzerland, will be reserved for companies.
Within a short period of three months, seven applications from companies were submitted to ASTRA.
After thorough evaluation, the five lots have now been allocated to the highest-rated companies.

- Lot 2: Mercedes-Benz High Power Charging Europe GmbH
- Lot 3: Atlante Italia S.r.l.
- Lot 4: Electra Charging Switzerland AG
- Lot 5: GOFAST AG
With the signing of the agreement, the companies have three years to plan the fast charging hubs and apply for building permits.
They are responsible for the planning, financing, construction, electricity connection, operation, and maintenance of the fast charging hubs.

About the Electromobility Roadmap
The Electromobility Roadmap 2025 brings together around 70 relevant stakeholders from business, public authorities, associations, and academia.
At the initiative of the Federal Department of the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications (UVEK), they have signed three goals aimed at developing electromobility in Switzerland, which are to be achieved by the end of 2025: increasing the share of plug-in vehicles to 50 per cent of new registrations, expanding the charging network to 20,000 publicly accessible charging stations, and facilitating user-friendly and grid-friendly charging.
The Roadmap serves as a platform for networking these stakeholders. They contribute to the dissemination of electromobility through individual measures.
Additionally, they engage in joint actions on key topics (“lighthouses”), such as expanding charging options in specific situations (multi-family buildings, neighbourhoods, points of interest) and the circular economy of traction batteries.
