EDP to install up to 50 EV charging points at Vila Galé hotels

EDP and the Vila Galé Group have signed an agreement to install up to 50 electric vehicle charging points at the chain’s hotels across Portugal.

The devices will be connected to the MOBI.E public charging network and will be available for use by both hotel guests and any EV drivers with access to the properties’ parking areas.

The first two charging points have already been installed at the newly opened Vila Galé Collection Elvas hotel.

This initiative is part of EDP’s strategy to promote electric mobility and will enable the company to reach 100 charging points on the public MOBI.E network in the coming months.

Since entering this segment, EDP has recorded more than 59,000 charging sessions, delivering over 720 MWh and avoiding the emission of more than 540 tonnes of CO₂, according to company data.

The company is also investing in home charging solutions and green tariffs, aiming to facilitate broader adoption of electric vehicles.

“We are very pleased to continue finding partners who, like EDP, believe it is essential to take significant steps towards a more sustainable society,” said Vera Pinto Pereira, President of EDP Comercial.

Meanwhile, Gonçalo Rebelo de Almeida, Administrator at Vila Galé, stated that the installation of these points aligns with growing demand from EV-driving guests and the group’s sustainability policy.

“It makes perfect sense to equip our hotels with these chargers to make EV charging more convenient and efficient,” he explained.

Vila Galé is also developing paper-free and plastic-free hotel concepts. Since 2017, the group has implemented such initiatives at hotels including Vila Galé Porto Ribeira, Collection Braga, Sintra, Alter Real, and Serra da Estrela.

The new charging points can be easily located via the EV.X mobile app, developed by EDP, which has already been downloaded to more than 6,000 smartphones.
