Last week, the Powerlab was inaugurated in Porto, Portugal, specifically at Rua Anselmo Braamcamp, 329.
It is an experimental laboratory owned by Powerdot.

The site is open to charge point operators (CPOs) for testing technological innovations, and to users for charging their cars.
Powerlab is a charging station with the capacity to charge 12 cars, featuring chargers from six different manufacturers and offering power outputs of up to 200 kilowatts (kW).
José Sacadura, Managing Director of Powerdot in Portugal, states: “Powerlab brings to life our vision of creating the most advanced electric vehicle charging experience in Europe. Here, we test solutions that not only improve efficiency but also offer a premium experience for drivers.”
Francisco Espiñeira, E-Mobility Partnership Developer at Powerdot, says: “In this space, we will test and implement new solutions and premium experiences, validating technologies and approaches in Porto before rolling them out across our entire network.”
He continues: “Powerlab is more than just a technical centre: it’s where ideas are transformed into real solutions that enhance electric mobility for all our partners and customers. An important step in continuing to lead with cutting-edge technology and ongoing innovation.”
Through a partnership with miio and Mercedes-Benz Portugal, the first automatic charge in the country was carried out. This involves simply connecting the charger cable to the car’s charging port, with the charging session starting automatically—no cards, apps, QR codes, or similar tools required.
“It is the simplest method—previously used by Tesla at its Superchargers—for charging an electric vehicle,” states Henrique Sánchez, Honorary President at the Associação de Utilizadores de Veículos Elétricos (UVE).
The event was attended by representatives from various companies and associations, including UVE.

Powerdot is headquartered in Portugal and has over 200 employees across Europe, with more than 120 based in Portugal.
The product teams remain centralised in Porto, strengthening the local innovation ecosystem and highlighting the country’s importance to the company’s international growth.
