Despite a slight dip in sales in December, electric vehicles (EVs) maintained their dominance in Norway, constituting 82.4 per cent of all new car registrations over the past twelve months.
The overall passenger car market experienced a contraction of 27.2 per cent compared to 2022, with 126,953 new passenger cars registered in 2023.
Within this, battery electric vehicles (BEVs) accounted for 104,590, while plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) reached 10,169.
In comparison, the battery electric vehicles (BEVs) market lost slightly less: 24.4 per cent.
The plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) market grew slightly to 36.9 per cent.
The result is that the share of BEV passenger cars in the total new registration market has risen slightly from 2022 to 2023: from 79.3 to 82.4 per cent.
December saw a relatively subdued performance in the Norwegian EV market, with 8,957 electric cars added, representing a 72.6 per cent decrease compared to the robust December 2022 figures.
