This figure represents a 22% increase in one year.

“With 174,574 public charging points available, motorists can set off on their holidays with complete peace of mind,” says Clément Molizon, General Delegate of Avere-France.

Since the beginning of the year, 3,942 new charging stations have been installed across the country, representing 19,880 individual points.

In July alone, 5,015 devices were deployed — a record for the past 12 months.

Currently, France has 259 charging points per 100,000 inhabitants.

Network coverage continues to improve, with a 10% rise in fast chargers and an 11% increase in ultra-fast ones, making long-distance travel more convenient.

For comparison, the country now has five times more charging hubs than petrol stations.

Finally, the availability rate has reached 93%, ensuring reliable access to charging terminals.

“The probability of a user immediately accessing an available and operational charging point is 95%,” Molizon notes.

About the charging point barometer in France

Since 2021, Avere-France and the Ministry for the Ecological Transition have been working together to develop a reference barometer on electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

They entrusted this task to Gireve, an expert in e-mobility, for its expertise and the quality of its tools, with the aim of producing robust and transparent indicators to monitor both infrastructure deployment and usage patterns.

The collected data is formatted and goes through a cleaning process to ensure that each charging point complies with the definition set out in Decree No. 2017-26 of 12 January 2017.

The number of existing but unregistered chargers has been estimated by Gireve using local-level statistical data to better reflect the actual situation.

The barometer compiles this information and provides an inventory of charging points that are open and accessible to the public, excluding those that have been decommissioned, are under construction, or are reserved for specific users such as fleet vehicles, company employees, or residents of apartment buildings or private homes.

The report also includes indicators based on data from roaming charging sessions carried out via the Gireve interoperability platform at public charging points in mainland France.

This barometer enables the publication of a monthly reference report on the number and distribution of public charging points, detailing their power levels and geographical spread, with regional indicators.

It also allows for monthly monitoring of charging station usage, both in terms of availability and volume of charging sessions.
