Galp installs 12 ultra-fast chargers by Siemens in Portugal

This investment is part of Galp’s expansion plan, aimed at increasing the number of charging hubs in Lisbon and Porto metropolitan areas, as well as along the A1 and A2 motorways, in response to growing demand for fast charging and in alignment with European AFIR regulations.

Galp has inaugurated a new electric charging hub in Esmoriz, near the A29, featuring the first Siemens ultra-fast chargers manufactured in Portugal.

The Sicharge D model, produced in Corroios, offers 12 charging points with a capacity of up to 300 kilowatts, enabling an average range of 100 km in just six minutes.

This significantly reduces waiting times, bringing the electric charging experience closer to traditional refuelling and optimising energy consumption.

“Galp has been providing the best energy solutions for Portuguese mobility for decades,” says Duarte Martins, Head of the Electric Mobility Technical Area at Galp.

He continues: “We are consolidating our leadership in this segment with a strategy that combines investments in more, faster charging points and Galp stations offering greater convenience, meeting the needs of users and bringing more customers into the electrification journey.”

“The solutions we have installed in Esmoriz demonstrate our commitment to sustainability and innovation,” states João Gouveia, Head of eMobility at Siemens Portugal.

“They not only meet current electric vehicle user needs—availability, speed, reliability, among others—but are also prepared for future challenges in this sector, which will be essential for achieving economic decarbonisation goals,” he adds.

The hub combines ultra-fast charging, safety features (lighting, coverage, CCTV), and the convenience of a renovated Galp store.

This investment is part of Galp’s expansion plan, aimed at increasing the number of charging hubs in Lisbon and Porto metropolitan areas, as well as along the A1 and A2 motorways, in response to growing demand for fast charging and in alignment with European AFIR regulations.

Galp has built a leading position in electric mobility, achieving a record 40% growth in 2024, with a total of 1.4 million charging sessions across its network.

Meanwhile, Siemens, which manufactures the Sicharge D units in Corroios, continues to prioritise electric mobility as a key pillar of its decarbonisation strategy.

The company is electrifying its fleet and already operates over 130 chargers at its facilities in Alfragide, Corroios, and Freixieiro.
