Gen Z: The Generation That "Rebels" Against Pollution and Prefers Electric Vehicles?

Generation Z is changing the rules of eMobility.

While their predecessors, the millennials, have already started to set trends, those born between 1997 and 2012 are making decisions that will redefine the future.

One of these crucial decisions has to do with how they choose to travel the world.

In this regard, it has come to light that this generation has a particular preference for electric vehicles.

This was highlighted by Ignacio Paz, President of the Uruguayan Automotive Trade Association (ACAU), at the LATAM Renewables Congress, organised by the Uruguayan Renewable Energy Association (AUDER), citing the Mobility Consumer survey as a reference.

Recent studies show an interesting trend: Generation Z, despite being less interested in car ownership compared to previous generations, feels a significant attraction to electric vehicles.

It is worth noting that Generation Z makes up a quarter of the world’s population and is expected to represent 75% of the global workforce by 2025.

For this demographic, a car is not just a means of transport but an extension of their identity, a statement about who they are and what they stand for.

What makes electric cars so appealing to Generation Z?

According to an article by Antonio Mozas Martínez, Director of ASEPA (Spanish Association of Automotive Professionals), young people view electric vehicles as a revolution in every sense.

To reach this conclusion, Gen Z considers various aspects that play a crucial role.

Firstly, design, as most electric models have groundbreaking designs.

Secondly, connectivity, since electric vehicles are equipped with technologies not available in combustion models.

And another key aspect is sustainability. This generation is characterised by its strong environmental awareness and conviction about the importance of tackling climate change.
