Germany publishes DATEX-II data profile for live EV charging station data

Since April, CPOs have to provide data on their publicly accessible charging infrastructure free of charge and without discrimination. To standardise this data provision, Germany launched the DATEX-II data profile version 01-00-00.
Germany publishes DATEX-II data profile for live EV charging station data

Since 14 April 2025, operators (CPOs) of publicly accessible charging points have been obliged to provide data from their charging infrastructure in a non-discriminatory and free-of-charge manner.

This requirement is based on Article 20 of the AFIR Regulation (Regulation on the Deployment of Alternative Fuels Infrastructure).

This includes both static data such as the geographical location of charging points, number and type of connectors, opening hours, and vehicle compatibility, as well as certain dynamic data, such as the current availability or occupancy of charging points and operational status.

To ensure the smooth transmission of this data, Member States were required to establish a so-called National Access Point.

Germany has fulfilled this obligation in accordance with Article 20 of the AFIR Regulation and enables public access to the data reported by CPOs and the connected interfaces (APIs).

The Mobilithek platform, operated by the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV), serves as the central hub for this purpose.

The interfaces to the data already provided by operators can be accessed there.

The publication of the DATEX II data profile, version 01-00-00, marks a significant milestone: the standardised data model is now available on the Mobilithek.

This means that the necessary conditions for providing this data have been met, and CPOs can now make their data available in accordance with the standard – thereby complying with the AFIR requirements.

From 14 April 2026, the use of the DATEX II standard will become mandatory.
