The Federal Ministry of Digital and Transport (BMDV) is investing an additional 53.4 million euros in the procurement of buses with environmentally friendly drives and the associated infrastructure.

Daniela Kluckert, Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister for Digital and Transport, presented funding certificates to 11 bus companies and two districts from all over Germany.

“The switch to alternative drives is a huge challenge for bus companies. Therefore, I am pleased that we can financially support 13 more businesses and districts in their transition to clean buses,” states Kluckert.

“This ensures that public transport brings people to their destinations in a more environmentally friendly, less polluting, and quieter manner,” she adds.

With funding commitments, another 186 new environmentally friendly buses will hit the roads.

Currently, around 4,000 units and over 140 feasibility studies are being supported through the guideline – thus supporting over 250 transport companies and authorities in switching to environmentally friendly public transport.

The vehicles will now be increasingly present on Germany’s streets and will contribute significantly to the market ramp-up of electric buses.

The funding is provided within the framework of the “Guideline for the Promotion of Alternative Drives for Buses in Passenger Transport.”

The focus of the funding is on electric drive variants.

In addition, the infrastructure required for operation and the creation of feasibility studies are supported.

The iniciative is part of the German government’s Climate Protection Program 2030 for the implementation of the Climate Protection Plan 2050 and the Future Package of the Economic Stimulus Package.

Funding for this measure is also provided within the framework of the German Recovery and Resilience Plan (DARP) through the European Recovery and Resilience Facility (ARRF) in the Next Generation EU recovery instrument.
