Global Mobility Call (GMC) wrapped up its second edition, firmly positioning itself as a hub for discussions and the formulation of strategies for the future of sustainable mobility worldwide.

It has also emerged as the primary platform for the exchange of projects and investments between the public and private sectors.

Over 500 speakers (40% of whom were international) and 8,000 professionals from 37 countries participated in person in 120 sector-specific panels and conferences that took place from October 24 to 26.

This significant event was organized by IFEMA MADRID and Smobhub, attracting approximately 10,000 viewers who followed the talks, conferences, and discussions through live streaming and the digital platform Live Connect.

The Mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez Almeida, officially closed Global Mobility Call, highlighting the significance of driving this ambitious project from the capital of Spain.

In an international context where Madrid stands as one of the global benchmarks in the field of sustainable mobility, he stated, “One of the major challenges cities must address is how to resolve mobility as a critical issue for environmental preservation and citizen well-being.”

Juan Arrizabalaga, the Director General of IFEMA MADRID, expressed that “this second edition of Global Mobility Call has allowed us to confirm that we are a convergence point for all sectors and a catalyst for the necessary dialogue to promote entrepreneurship and investment in the field of sustainable mobility.”

“We are currently in a moment of opportunities where Spain can play a fundamental role in developing a powerful industry around mobility, thanks to the efforts being made by all major companies, corporations, and institutions in various related sectors,” he added.

Juan José Lillo, CEO and co-founder of Smobhub, the co-organizer of GMC, noted: “This 2023 edition solidifies Global Mobility Call as an international reference and an essential meeting point for the business and institutional ecosystem of sustainable mobility.”

“It has been characterized by intense business networking and high-quality participation. We aim to continue growing and positioning Spain at the heart of global mobility,” he added.

The event was structured around two main areas.

GMC Expo, which served as the exhibition space, featuring the presentation of cutting-edge products and solutions for the development of sustainable mobility and road safety.

It showcased the offerings of 104 exhibiting companies, a 76% increase from 2022.

These included groundbreaking products such as the first hydrogen-electricity-powered car for LeMans by Mission24H, the autonomous bus from CTAG, the autogyro with a drone from Expodrónica Police, and Karsan’s autonomous bus, among others.

The GMC Congress, the congress area, brought together leading experts and opinion leaders, including figures like Bertrand Piccard, Miguel Luengo, Peggy Liu, Ge Jun, and Jeremy Rifkin.

The program featured discussions by nearly 500 speakers, including sustainable mobility professionals from around the world and CEOs and top executives of major national and multinational companies.

Central themes included the role of electrification and other alternative fuels in decarbonization, transport multimodality, new infrastructures, innovation, digitalization, and new technologies.

These discussions contributed to shaping a paradigm for a new sustainable, safe, affordable, and innovative global mobility.

Global Mobility Call will publish the first report on sustainable mobility from GMC, which will compile all the discussions and presentations with the aim of sharing the knowledge generated during the event with all stakeholders.

Global Mobility Call received support, once again, from the Ministry of Transport, Mobility, and Urban Agenda, the Community of Madrid, and the City of Madrid.

It also had the participation of 104 entities, including 31 partners, public entities, companies, and 50 Spanish sectoral associations and 13 international ones.

The third edition of GMC is scheduled to take place in November 2024 at the IFEMA MADRID Exhibition Centre.
