Accompanied by Laura Nohémi Muñoz Benítez, General Director of Federal Motor Transport, and Lorena Martínez Álvarez, General Director of BY Delectrico, Jiménez Pons stated that this initiative is a commitment not only to the environment but also to society and communities.
“It is necessary to implement profound changes that promote a culture of environmental responsibility. This is a crucial step towards fostering the transition to cleaner and more sustainable technologies,” he remarked.
The Undersecretary also emphasized the importance of transitioning the entire vehicle fleet to electric power as soon as possible, which will not only require the creation of adequate infrastructure but also a cultural shift within society to adapt to these new technologies.
For her part, Laura Nohémi Muñoz Benítez, Director of Federal Motor Transport, highlighted the significant progress made in the electrification of transport.
“The decarbonization of the sector is a primary goal, and joint work with various industries is key to reducing the polluting emissions that affect health and the environment,” she commented, according to the outlet El Capitalino.
Similarly, Lorena Martínez Álvarez, General Director of BY Delectrico, stated that the introduction of these plates for electric vehicles symbolizes a transformation in federal motor transport, facilitating the transition to more sustainable mobility.
“These plates not only identify electric vehicles but also demonstrate Mexico’s commitment to eco-friendly transport, positioning us as leaders in this field,” she said.
Among the benefits these new plates will bring is the exemption from the requirement to present the Emissions Certificate, a necessary condition for obtaining federal motor transport plates for conventional vehicles.
This and other benefits, driven by various authorities, aim to encourage the adoption of electric vehicles in the country.
The event also saw the participation of the Chief Commissioner of the National Guard, Adán Altamirano Martínez, as well as representatives from important sector chambers such as CANAPAT, CANACAR, and ANTP, who recognised the joint effort to transform the transport industry in Mexico.
The SICT reaffirmed its commitment to continue developing policies that support the growth of sustainable transport, aligned with global objectives for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and the sustainable development of the country.
