Founded over 20 years ago, GPS Tuner Systems has evolved from its beginnings as a navigation software for off-road vehicles to providing solutions for micromobility and eMobility.

In this context, the company focuses on its EV Navigation solution to enhance the experience for electric vehicle (EV) drivers.

Gábor Tárnok, founder and CEO of GPS Tuner.

Speaking with Mobility Portal Europe during the London EV Show, its founder and CEO, Gábor Tárnok, states:

We eliminate range anxiety, which remains the primary issue for end users.”

He adds: “In this way, we aim to overcome perceived barriers, helping users to trust that they will always have access to a nearby charging station.”

With this solution, the application not only allows drivers to plan routes from A to B, but also integrates strategic “recharging” stops to optimise long journeys.

The platform has been available for two years and boasts more than 100,000 active users.

The service is accessible across multiple platforms, from web browsers to mobile apps and car dashboards with Android Auto and CarPlay.

“Currently, it is free and unrestricted, but we plan to introduce premium features in 2025,” Tárnok anticipates.

This business model targets both the B2C and B2B markets, a segment the company views as key to its expansion.

With over 600 electric vehicle models in its database, EV Navigation caters to the needs of a broad range of users.

Drivers can select their vehicle, plan routes, and receive real-time voice navigation guides.

The app’s range calculation takes several factors into account.

These include the current battery status, the number of passengers, tyre pressure, driving style, outside temperature, wind conditions, and road incline.

This level of customisation is one of the features that distinguishes the solution in the competitive eMobility app market.

For 2025, GPS Tuner plans to intensify its marketing efforts and consolidate its presence in the B2B segment while continuing to attract end consumers.

“We will work to increase the number of active customers in both areas,” explains Tárnok.

In this context, the CEO highlights that one of the main challenges faced by eVehicle drivers is range anxiety.

“Our mission is to offer a tool that simplifies the transition to EVs,” he mentions.

Additionally, GPS Tuner aims to adapt to market demands by offering scalable services.

In this context, its primary objective is to provide customers with a tool that effectively facilitates the transition from gasoline-powered vehicles to electric ones.

From Hungary to the world

Headquartered in Budapest, GPS Tuner is focused on the international market.

Its main customers are based in the United States and Europe, though the company also operates in Asia, specifically Taiwan and China.

We would like to expand to the Southern Hemisphere, particularly to Australia and South America,” says Tárnok.

In Brazil, the company is already collaborating with Ezvolt, a charging infrastructure company, providing advanced electric route planning features for its app.

The interest in South America extends beyond Brazil.

According to Tárnok, countries such as Argentina and other key markets in the region are also on their roadmap.

This demonstrates a strategic interest in emerging areas where the adoption of EVs is gaining momentum.

How was GPS Tuner born?

The story of GPS Tuner began more than two decades ago when the CEO started developing the GPS application on his own over five years.

“It was a GPS navigation product for off-road vehicles,” he explains.

Later, some investors joined the project, contributed capital, hired developers, and took the navigation software to the next level.

As a result, the initiative evolved into the realm of micromobility, with applications for electric bikes and scooters, which now represent its core business.

In this regard, they collaborate with major names such as Trek Bicycle, ZF, TQ-Systems, Fantic Motor, and Fischer, providing application solutions that connect to vehicles, plan routes, and offer navigation.

Tárnok emphasises that these experiences have shaped their current approach: “We aspire to be the partner of choice for manufacturers and electric mobility service providers.”
