North Lincolnshire Council, in partnership with chargepoint operator (CPO) Believ, will install hundreds of electric vehicle (EV) chargepoints over the next few years to support local residents charge their cars.
The project, which is majority private funded by Believ and part funded via the Department for Transport’s Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) fund, will reinforce the council’s commitment to promoting cleaner, more sustainable transport through making EV infrastructure more accessible.
As one in four of households in North Lincolnshire are without off-street parking, the initiative will improve charging accessibility in the region to encourage wider adoption of EVs.
The most recent statistics show that nearly 3,000 cars are low emission vehicles in North Lincolnshire, this includes full electric and hybrid.
The chargers will be installed in both urban and rural locations, as well as a high volume in residential areas to reflect user demand.
A mixture of fast and rapid chargers will be deployed, with 16 rapid and ultra-rapid chargers located in key car parks across the area for drivers needing to charge en route.
In a competitive tender process, Believ stood out for its ability to deliver competitively priced tariffs across all charging speeds, providing affordable access and contactless payment options that enhance the overall charging experience.
The CPO will also be delivering a suite of social value initiatives in the region.
Overall, Believ was selected as an experienced delivery partner that could ensure a consistent and reliable network of charge points that will meet the needs of residents, businesses and visitors to North Lincolnshire.
Guy Bartlett, Believ CEO, says the business is thrilled to be supporting North Lincolnshire Council in its ambition to make EV ownership as inclusive as possible:
“With NLC, we are working with partners who are driven by a desire to support as many local people as possible making the transition to EVs. Our shared goals to help decarbonise transport and deliver cleaner air for all will create a partnership that will benefit the area for many years to come.”
Councillor David Rose, cabinet member for environment and strategy at North Lincolnshire Council shared his excitement about the project:
“To deliver the next phase of our Charging Ahead project, to install more electric charging points in North Lincolnshire, we are delighted to be working in partnership with Believ.
“It is important that the needs of residents, businesses and visitors are met, which this new scheme aims to do, to benefit the area now and in the future.
“We are committed to supporting residents make cleaner, greener transport options and part of that is making the right infrastructure available in local communities. Not everyone has the option of off-street parking, which is why a high number of chargers will be located in these residential areas.”
Minister for Aviation, Maritime and Decarbonisation, Keir Mather, said:
“We’re backing Britain’s EV revolution with £381 million to roll out over 100,000 new chargers, including these latest additions in North Lincolnshire, and another £25 million to help people without driveways access cheaper charging rates.
“Chargepoint figures in North Lincolnshire are up 47% in the past year and drivers can save thousands off the price of new EV’s through our Electric Car Grant which continues to expand with more models being added from the most popular brands.”
