By the end of 2024, Italy had 64,391 public charging points for electric vehicles, marking sustained growth in charging infrastructure.
According to the latest data recorded as of December 31, 2024, 47% of the new charging points installed in the past year are fast or ultra-fast stations.
The breakdown by power capacity shows that 50,524 charging points operate below 50 kW, 9,991 range between 50 and 149 kW, and 3,876 exceed 150 kW.
In terms of geographic distribution, 57% of the network is located in northern Italy, 20% in central Italy, and 23% in the south and on the islands.

In the last quarter of 2024 alone, 4,052 new charging stations were added, while the total number of new charging points over the past year reached 13,713.
Over the past two years, the expansion has been substantial, increasing from 36,772 points in December 2022 to 64,391 in December 2024, reflecting a 75% growth during this period.
Highway Charging in Italy
Regarding highway infrastructure, Italy now has 1,087 operational charging stations. Among these, 86% use direct current (DC), and 64% offer power exceeding 150 kW.
Additionally, 42% of service areas along Italian highways now have charging infrastructure, a crucial milestone for long-distance electric mobility.
The report highlights that the number of highway charging points has surpassed 1,000, a significant increase considering that just two years ago, there were only 496 stations available.
With this continued expansion, Italy is strengthening its electric vehicle charging infrastructure, demonstrating notable growth in both urban areas and strategic corridors essential for e-mobility.
