Kempower energises Circle K’s 1st 100% electric charging hub in Sweden

* For the first time in Scandinavia, Circle K has launched a brand new site with EV chargers only and no fuel pumps. As part of the project, Kempower inaugurated its newest smart charging features, allowing regular users to start charging automatically.

Finnish DC fast-charging manufacturer Kempower has partnered with global convenience store and roadside service station operator Circle K to launch a milestone charging site for the company.

The brand new service station in the Gårda district of Gothenburg is officially inaugurated today with a ribbon-cutting event as the companies celebrate Circle K’s first fully-electric vehicle station, equipped solely with Kempower’s ultra-fast EV charging infrastructure.

Kempower has supplied the site with a system comprising two 600kW Kempower Power Units and ten Kempower Single Satellites, each capable of delivering up to 400kW to the connected vehicle.

Using its distributed charging technology, which allows power to be allocated dynamically across the system to prioritize the vehicles that have the greatest charging demands, it’s expected that the chargers will support EV drivers travelling through the busy district to recharge quickly and conveniently.

Through the project, Circle K and Kempower deployed an improved version of Kempower’s Autocharge feature which makes the charging experience even quicker and more seamless.

Users will be given the option for the system to remember their vehicle, meaning that, during future visits, they will be able to simply plug in their EV and their session will begin and be paid for automatically, without needing to go through the authentication process each time. The feature works for the majority of EV brands and is among the first on the market to facilitate this.

Today’s launch will celebrate the success of the project between Kempower and Circle K, which symbolizes the continued progress of the EV transition, particularly in Scandinavia. Being Circle K’s first charging-only vehicle station, the site in Gårda will act as a milestone for the company and be a strong inspiration for developing similar sites going forward, as EV charging demand grows ever-stronger.

The site was initially opened to its first customers on 28 April 2025, providing convenient on-route charging for drivers travelling to and from the city centre, using nearby motorways and visiting local attractions. Charging users also have access to a brand new Circle K convenience store for grab-and-go coffees, hot and cold food, and other essentials.

Erik Kanerva, Kempower’s Sales Director for North Europe, said: “Circle K is an exceptional example of an established business embracing incoming change as the EV transition moves forward. It’s a big step to dedicate a brand-new site exclusively to EV charging, and Circle K has clearly recognized the strategic importance in investing in the transition to electric mobility. We’re proud to have supported them with developing this milestone site in Gårda and look forward to continuing to develop our partnership going forward.”

Maria Estenstad Friis, the Director for Circle K’s Charge Point Operator function, commented: “We’re proud to have been working with Kempower for around a year so far and, through rigorous testing and trials, we’ve found that Kempower’s chargers are performing very well on reliability and charging speed. Customer experience and satisfaction are paramount to us, and we’re pleased to be working with Kempower as we continue to strengthen our e-mobility offering – an area that remains a key strategic focus for our business.”
