100% Local Manufacturing: The Key to Scaling in the EV Charger Market

Can full local production be the secret to scaling in the EV charger market? Peblar believes so — and backs it with a 100% Dutch-made strategy that ensures flexibility, regulatory alignment and rapid response across Europe.

Today, many companies selling electric vehicle (EV) chargers in Europe rely on imported components or manufacture their products entirely abroad—primarily in China.

Peblar, however, is taking a completely different approach.

“We are a Dutch company that produces 100% of our chargers in the Netherlands,” says Rogier Schellens, Sales Manager for the Benelux region at Peblar, in an interview with Mobility Portal Europe during Power2Drive.

The firm oversees the development, testing, and full-scale manufacturing at its own facilities.

We have the capability to keep everything under one roof. That’s unique in this market,” the executive emphasises.

One of Peblar’s main differntiators lies in its ability to avoid outsourcing at any stage of the process.

“This is important because we’re not dependent on what suppliers might have available. By doing everything in-house, we gain autonomy and efficiency,” explains Schellens.

This approach provides Peblar with a critical advantage: scalability.

It means the company can rapidly ramp up production in response to customer orders or market shifts.

If a client requests a certain quantity of chargers, we can respond swiftly,” he highlights.

Furthermore, scalability enables the firm to be prepared whenever a new industry standard comes into force.

Peblar’s chargers comply with the technical and regulatory requirements of various European countries.

They are compatible with Eichrecht regulations in Germany, as well as French and UK standards.

“We are firmly established in the Benelux region, where we have a solid customer base, but we are planning to expand into other markets,” Schellens states.

In this regard, Eastern and Southern Europe are in Peblar’s sights.

Spain and Italy are particularly interesting markets for us,” he adds.

At present, Peblar is focused on manufacturing alternating current (AC) chargers, suitable for both residential and corporate applications.

“Our products can be installed in private settings or in B2B configurations, such as clusters of two or more chargers,” the Benelux Manager notes.

Distribution Network and Commercial Model

Peblar sells its products exclusively through distributors. It does not sell directly to end users or installers.

We are looking for resellers across Europe. Our strategy is based on providing quality support and building strong relationships with clients,” says Schellens.

This model allows the team to focus on after-sales service, technical support, and the steady expansion of the brand.

How Is Electromobility Progressing in the Netherlands?

“You could say it’s a mature market where all the key players are familiar with each other,” Schellens observes.

He adds: “Although leasing companies used to lead the adoption of EVs, they now account for 40% of the fleet, while the private sector makes up 60%.”

However, it remains essential to keep convincing private users to choose electric vehicles over combustion-engine models.

One factor that could encourage people to make the switch is the price of vehicles.

“The large-scale adoption of second-hand EVs is yet to come,” the executive asserts.
