The MAN Lion’s City 12 E LE dominates both urban and intercity routes and stands out for its flexibility and sustainability, which also impressed the international jury of the Sustainable Bus Awards (Sby).
The first fully electric low-floor bus from MAN won the award in the “Intercity” category.
Sby has been awarded for the seventh time since its inception, and as in previous years, the jury recognised the most innovative buses on the European market.
“Last year our Lion’s City 10 E won, and this year the Lion’s City 12 E LE outperformed the competition and won over the jury. We are very proud of this,” said Heinz Kiess, Head of Product Marketing for Buses at MAN Truck & Bus, when collecting the award at the gala dinner of the FIAA 2024 international bus fair in Madrid.
The Sustainable Bus Awards is the only European award focused on innovative and sustainable technologies that will shape the future of mobility.
The jury, made up of specialised press from ten European countries, awards the prize in the categories of urban, intercity, and coach buses.
The jury awarded the MAN Lion’s City 12 E LE because it meets the growing demand for environmentally friendly buses.
The “fully electric” urban bus is powered by a central motor with a maximum output of 240 kW.
MAN’s modular battery system allows for flexible adaptation of the number of batteries based on charging needs, passenger numbers, and range.
The MAN Lion’s City 12 E LE offers the option of four or six batteries with a capacity of up to 480 kWh.
The jury was impressed by its excellent performance and emission-free operation.
In addition, operators can easily manage their electric bus fleet and optimise not only performance but also maintenance thanks to MAN DigitalServices.
The jury’s verdict confirmed that the MAN Lion’s City 12 E LE was designed to be flexible for both urban and intercity transport.
Moreover, this bus highlights MAN’s commitment to sustainability while offering a practical solution adaptable to the needs of modern public transport.
The MAN eBus family inspires
The low-floor chassis bus made its world premiere at Busworld 2023 and represents the latest addition to MAN’s eBus range.

Last year, the Lion’s City 10 E received the Sby 2024 award, and the Lion’s City 12 E was named Bus of the Year 2023.
