Milence Accelerates Germany’s Transition to Electric Road Transport with Two New Charging Hubs

Milence, a joint venture between Daimler Truck, TRATON GROUP, and Volvo Group, has opened two new state-of-the-art electric vehicle (EV) charging hubs in Germany, supporting the transition to electric freight transport and reinforcing the shift towards a fossil-free transport sector.

Milence has taken a significant step in advancing the transition to electric transport in Europe with the opening of two new charging hubs in Germany, the largest road transport market on the continent.

These cutting-edge hubs are strategically located along key freight corridors, facilitating the connection between Berlin, southern Germany, and Poland, and supporting Milence’s mission to accelerate the adoption of fossil-free road transport.

The two Milence charging stations feature high-power charging of up to 400 kW and are designed to optimise connectivity and convenience for drivers. The newly operational hubs are located in:

  • Hermsdorfer Kreuz, Thuringia: Situated on the A4 motorway between Poland and Frankfurt am Main, this strategically located hub has eight charging bays and serves as a major node for freight traffic. It provides universal access for all heavy-duty electric trucks, regardless of the manufacturer.
  • Vockerode, Saxony-Anhalt: Located on the A9 motorway between Berlin and Leipzig, this hub offers four charging bays and is adjacent to a secure truck park that provides high-quality amenities, including lounges, showers, and restrooms.

Milence vision: Germany, a key market for the transition to electric transport

With over 30% of Europe’s road freight passing through its borders, Germany is a cornerstone of Milence’s strategy.

These Milence’s hubs in Hermsdorfer Kreuz and Vockerode will soon be complemented by additional hubs in key cities such as Kassel Lohfelden, Koblenz, and Recklinghausen, all designed to meet the growing demand for electric freight infrastructure.

Speaking about the opening, Anja van Niersen, CEO of Milence, said:

“The opening of our first two hubs in Germany demonstrates our commitment to the growing market demand for reliable and accessible electric charging infrastructure. Germany is key to accelerating the transition to fossil-free road transport, and we are committed to maintaining this momentum by working with local stakeholders and adapting to market demand.”

Milence hubs are built with sustainability in mind, operating with 100% renewable energy and utilising construction practices that prioritise CO2 reduction.

These facilities not only provide high-performance charging but also contribute to lowering the environmental footprint, employing innovative solutions in their infrastructure design.

In addition to offering rapid charging, Milence hubs are designed to provide a safe and comfortable environment for drivers.

The Milence facilities include secure parking areas, with access control, illuminated spaces, camera surveillance, Wi-Fi, and rest areas, ensuring an optimal charging experience for both drivers and their vehicles.

Milence also ensures transparency and accessibility with a robust payment system. Drivers can use a wide range of charging cards through partnerships with e-Mobility Service Providers (eMSPs), in addition to direct payment options via the Milence app or bank cards.

The standard charging tariff is €0.399 per kWh (excluding VAT), with pricing details displayed on the Milence app and at each charging point.
