In a major leap towards sustainable airport operations, SBRS GmbH has launched a state-of-the-art electric bus depot at Munich Airport, developed in collaboration with AeroGround.
The new facility, which houses 50 high-power charging stations, is poised to revolutionise ground transport logistics at one of Europe’s busiest hubs.
With each station delivering 120 kilowatts (kW) of power, the infrastructure currently supports 37 emission-free electric buses, with plans to expand capacity to a total of 72 buses in the near future.
What sets this project apart is the logistical complexity under which it was delivered: construction and commissioning were carried out in the midst of full airport operations, without disruption.
This feat underlines not only the technical capability of SBRS, but also its commitment to ensuring a seamless integration of innovation into high-pressure, real-world environments.
Project Manager Marvin Thölke says: “Charging infrastructure at an international airport brings unique demands in both technology and organisation. That’s exactly what made this project exciting. I’m proud of the team that turned this into a reality, enabling electromobility in such a complex setting.”
The new depot represents more than just technical advancement—it symbolises SBRS’s ongoing mission to decarbonise airport ground operations.
With this deployment, Munich Airport takes a significant step towards achieving net-zero mobility goals, aligning with broader European and national sustainability targets.
SBRS GmbH, a specialist in electric mobility and charging solutions, sees the project as part of a wider push to electrify commercial fleets, especially in critical infrastructure environments like airports, ports, and public transport hubs.
As airports across Europe race to electrify their fleets and reduce emissions, the Munich model offers a compelling blueprint for scalable, future-proof eMobility infrastructure—without compromising day-to-day operations.
