Nagel-Group Adds 20 E-Trucks and Expands Charging Infrastructure

Nagel-Group is continuing to invest in electromobility and is expanding its vehicle fleet by a total of 20 brand new electric semi-trailer trucks in 2025.

These are six Volvo FH Aero Electric and 14 Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 models.

The vehicles, which have a range of around 300 to 500 kilometres, are used for food transport both in regional and long-distance transport.

Carsten Taucke, CEO of Nagel-Group, says: “Our first electric semi-trailer trucks have been in use since 2022. In introducing the new vehicles, we aim to integrate more e-trucks into our transport network to start replacing conventional diesel vehicles.”

The electric fleet expansion will take place in several stages over the course of 2025: the first electric semi-trailer trucks have already been put into operation from March, with further deliveries to follow in the second quarter and at the end of the year.

Nagel-Group’s aim is to increase the proportion of low-emission vehicles even further in its quest to achieve its ambitious targets for reducing CO₂ emissions.

Electromobility with strong partners for more climate protection

Six new Volvo e-truck units expand the fleet at the Bochum, Borgholzhausen and Hamburg sites.

The new design of the Volvo FH Aero Electric ensures greater energy efficiency and improved power consumption.

With a range of over 300 kilometres per battery charge and expected to cover around 150,000 kilometres per year, the vehicles will primarily be used in regional transport.

In all, 14 Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 electric semi-trailer trucks will also be delivered to Nagel-Group in 2025.

The model, which is in demand in the industry, has a range of 500 kilometres per battery charge and is to be used at the Borgholzhausen, Hamburg, Bochum, Gotha and Groß-Gerau sites.

As well as being environmentally friendly, the electric semi-trailer trucks offer an improved driving experience: less noise, no vibrations and a pleasant driving style make for a noticeably more comfortable working day for professional truck drivers.

Stefan Mörchel, driver and fleet manager at the Nagel-Group site in Bochum, states: “Even after driving the first few kilometres, many drivers have radically changed their attitude towards electromobility. It is a completely new experience to drive an electric truck – quiet, powerful and more relaxed.”

Expansion of the charging infrastructure

Nagel-Group is not only investing in the vehicles, but also in the expansion of the charging infrastructure to ensure smooth operation of its e-truck units.

In recent months, fast-charging stations with a total of 12 charging points have been installed at four locations, where the new e-trucks can be quickly charged with up to 400 kW.

The power supply is supported by photovoltaic systems on the hall roofs of the locations and intelligent charging and load management.

For example, Nagel-Group operates the largest rooftop photovoltaic system in the Ruhr region at its Bochum site and will commission a high-performance battery storage system in 2025.

This self-generated electricity then not only supplies various electric vehicles, but also the cooling systems.
