Four new zero-emission electric buses and four charging stations are set to arrive in Foggia, thanks to a total investment of 3,007,129.84 euros, fully funded by the Puglia Region.
This project, submitted under the Regional Programme Puglia FESR-FSE+ 2021-2027, falls within Objective RSO2.8 – Priority Axis III “Sustainable Urban Mobility” – Action 3.1.
Its goal is to promote the transition to attractive, inclusive, and sustainable urban mobility, enhancing and upgrading the urban transport system.
New Electric Bus Routes
The brand-new electric buses will operate on two key lines:
- AIRBUS Line – Dedicated to connecting the Intermodal Hub with the reopened G. Lisa Airport, crossing the city centre via Corso Roma and Viale Ofanto, before linking to Viale degli Aviatori and reaching the airport.
- LSU (Special University Line) – Starting from the Intermodal Hub, this route will cut through the city centre and connect major educational and cultural landmarks, including:
- Academy of Fine Arts (and the Faculty of Humanities, located in the historic centre, just a 5-minute walk away)
- Faculty of Agriculture
- Policlinico Riuniti (home to the Medical Faculty)
- Città del Cinema, which has hosted medical faculty classes for over a year
- University Headquarters
- Student Housing
- Provincial Library
- Faculties of Economics and Law
- Returning to the Bus Terminal
Through these strategic routes, the municipal administration aims to enhance and promote integration between public transport and soft mobility.
These new buses—all equipped with bike racks—will significantly improve services for both Foggia residents and the urban transport network’s general users.
Mayor Episcopo says: “With this project, and thanks to the positive and ongoing collaboration with the Puglia Region, we are strengthening local transport services while making our city more livable and environmentally sustainable.”
“At the same time, we are actively pursuing our vision of Foggia as a university city, which is a declared objective of our administration,” he adds.
Councillor for Public Enterprises, Davide Emanuele, states: “With this initiative, we are reinforcing and advancing our urban transport intermodality strategy, continuing our collaboration with the Region to modernise and upgrade the fleet available to Foggia’s residents.”
He continues: “In coordination with the new Ataf leadership, we aim to make the service efficient and extensive, optimising routes and schedules to better meet citizens’ mobility needs.”
