North Rhine-Westphalia supports the purchase of eTrucks with up to €300,000 per vehicle

Logistics companies, freight forwarders, and municipal companies with a location in North Rhine-Westphalia that want to switch to emission-free heavy commercial vehicles can apply starting September 18.
North Rhine-Westphalia supports the purchase of eTrucks with up to €300,000 per vehicle

Road freight transport is responsible for around one-third of greenhouse gas emissions in the transport sector. Electric drives make an important contribution to reducing emissions and protecting the climate.

This is why the state of North Rhine-Westphalia is providing a one-time total of 15 million euros to support the climate-neutral and future-oriented transition of fleets in the NRW logistics industry.

Mona Neubaur, Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection, says: “The acquisition costs for heavy emission-free trucks are currently two to three times higher than those for diesel vehicles. Without subsidies, many companies cannot switch their fleets.”

“To shorten the time until economic viability, the state is providing one-time support to the industry with up to 300,000 euros per vehicle for the purchase of modern electrically powered trucks. In this way, we are closing the federal funding gap and tackling the transition to electric heavy-duty transport in North Rhine-Westphalia,” she adds.

Logistics companies, freight forwarders, and municipal companies with a location in North Rhine-Westphalia that want to switch to emission-free heavy commercial vehicles can apply starting September 18.

The permissible total weight must exceed twelve tonnes (vehicle class N3).

The purchase and leasing of new battery-electric or fuel cell trucks are eligible for funding:

  • The vehicles can be subsidised by up to 60% of the eligible additional costs.
  • The maximum funding amount is 300,000 euros per vehicle and a maximum of 500,000 euros per company or group of companies.
  • Applications will be approved within the available budget in a competitive process. The order of approval will be based on the lowest requested funding amount per vehicle.

Funding applications can be submitted to the Arnsberg District Government from September 18 to October 16, 2024.

Logistics companies can learn more about the details of the funding call in a webinar on August 21, 2024.

The funding call is part of a comprehensive package of support measures by the state to help the logistics industry transition their fleets to emission-free drives.

For example, the development of implementation concepts is supported under the “progres.NRW – Low-Emission Mobility” funding programme.

The state also offers a wide range of information and support, such as a practical guide to fleet transition with accompanying seminars.
