Octopus Energy is pioneering a new era of electric vehicle charging with the launch of Intelligent Drive Pack – a groundbreaking bolt-on that offers UK drivers unlimited smart charging for just 30 pounds a month.
The innovative subscription model is designed for drivers on a standard Octopus electricity tariff.
It makes cheap and easy EV charging more accessible than ever before – no smart tariff or home battery required.
All customers need is a working smart meter and one of almost 280 compatible EV brands and chargers installed at home.
The 30 pounds subscription covers smart charging for one electric car scheduled by Octopus, usually overnight.
Customers can choose a ‘ready by’ time between 4-11am and enjoy the greenest energy possible at a fixed low price.
Customers who want to charge during unscheduled hours can use a boost function on their app to charge at their normal home energy rate – not included in the 30 pounds monthly fee.
With Intelligent Drive Pack, drivers pay two fifths (41%) of what petrol car owners typically spend each month (based on 2023 average mileage of a UK driver of 7,600 miles and average price for fuel).
The launch is part of Octopus’ wider mission to make the switch to electric driving a no-brainer, with a fair, flexible solution for all types of drivers.
Rebecca Dibb-Simkin, Chief Product Officer at Octopus Energy, says: “You can’t even get a nice meal out at a restaurant for 30 pounds anymore – but you can get a whole month’s worth of driving!
“Intelligent Drive Pack is a completely new way to save – perfect for drivers who want predictability, flexibility and great value rolled into one. It’s another step towards making electric cars the obvious choice for everyone.”
Octopus’ original smart EV tariff, Intelligent Octopus Go, now boasts over 260,000 customers who benefit from six hours of super cheap, green charging overnight – all managed automatically by Octopus. It’s already one of the cheapest ways to power an EV.
Octopus offers Intelligent Octopus Go in six other countries where it supplies energy – Italy, France, Spain, Germany, New Zealand and the U.S. – with plans to expand the tariff elsewhere in the near future.
Customers who are already on the Intelligent Octopus Go tariff can carry on as usual – nothing changes, and it still offers fantastic value.
Intelligent Drive Pack is simply another option for EV drivers looking for low-cost, hassle-free charging on their terms.
